Program.
Each person referred to NJADB receives Individualized Service Planning with one of our case managers. People requesting services discuss their goals and needs which are then developed into service plans. As people's lives invariably change, the service plans are flexible pictures of support which capture the individual's needs at that time. Plans are reviewed at minimum annually, and as needed based on each person's life. Family Support Services provides assistance to families who are the primary caretaker of a person who is deaf and/or blind and developmentally disabled. NJADB staff coordinate the resources and direct service support needed to help families whose lifestyles are affected by these disabilities.

In order to be eligible for CSS services you must have a combination of severe hearing and vision loss. Visual acuity must be no better than 20/200 with corrective lenses in the better eye.
Referrals for service come from the NJ Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired as well as from other community providers and the general public.

Respite Services.
Respite Services are designed to provide relief from the stress that can be associated with the challenges of meeting the intensive support needs of a person with developmental disabilities. NJADB Respite Workers are trained to provide quality support to people who are deaf and/or blind and developmentally disabled as well as in the specific needs of each person and family. This allows the care taker time to tend to other household and personal needs with the peace of mind that their family member is safe.
Schedules and activities are planned with the family as needed for a maximum of twenty hours per month.

Cash Option.
This option provides the family the flexibility to hire their own Respite Worker and act in place of NJADB as an employer in determining the training needs and hourly rate of the person providing support services.
Families are reimbursed for approved expenses on monthly basis, not to exceed $160.00 per month.

Stipends.
Emergency cash stipends are available to families in need of financial support to purchase necessary equipment or other household needs to ensure the health, safety and well being of a family member with disabilities. Stipends are awarded for expenses that enable a person to remain in their home as opposed to institutionalization.
